Is intelligence a turn-off in a relationship? Women like a dumb, good-looking bloke....i am average looking..?

I was trying to explain to this girl on a date that looks are skin deep and that i was looking for a person i could live my life with......not a person i use for lust.

Then, unfortunately i mentioned that i hated ignorance and made a fairly bizarre statement, to which she was gobsmacked......I said in reference to ignorance that "Jesus christ was crucified on wood from the tree of knowledge, so that shows how far we've progressed and how the more we know (we think!), the more we recognize that we are ignorant."

She was kinda shell-shocked........

Never rang me again :(

When i first met my husband , I asked him a controversial question to which I was really looking for an answer, and was impressed by his clearness in defining a very complex situation.

22 years later, asked at a dinner table what i believe to be my husband's best quality, my answer was, his ablitiy to see new solutions and clarity of mind.

Now, perhaps your date was not shocked by what you said but how you stated it... a bit more humbleness, perhaps, could have helped.

Many intelectual persons feel slightly superior. it is good to remember that Jesus chose ignorant fishermen as Apostles.

To be ignorant is not a choice- it is a lack of options. I am inclined to dislike "those who could and don't" for they are the ones who have conditions and the moral obligation to be pro-active and put in more than their grain of sand.
Reply:Oh yes I just love being on a date with a guy that can't form half a sentence and once he does contribute something to the conversation it's about sports or his car(consisting of more nonverbal communication like showing me how exactly he scored or making the sounds of an engine than actual words). Let's not forget the blank looks I get when I start politics(' so where is this Cambodia again?') or books('Yeah I know that one. The table in my dorm has one leg shorter so I use it so it won't wiggle'). Ah a definite turn on.
Reply:ignorance and stupidity are the turn-offs. i like to have a man that i can hold an intelligent conversation with and also learn new things from him. looks ARE only skin deep. and I take brain over looks.
