Why does everyone emphasize so much on looks?

I see the beauty in everyone and everything. Physical looks are only skin-deep yet people are obsessed over them. People who work out excessively and spend hours to look good. I don't care how i look i just am who i am. i don't need to prove to anyone or care what people think. what are people so addicted to looks?

well since the majority of people are, it is apparently human nature. so if you have beef with that, take it up with God.

Reply:while girls can appreciate the occasional piece of eye-candy, it's biologically proven that men are visual creatures- and that many ppl of both genders enjoy sex. put women in skimpy clothing or w/ a pretty face and it sells. so in turn-the images and put out there and gooo-ed and gawww-ed over. sickening, i know. looking at something's easy-discovering things and thinking requires more effort that ppl won't as readily expend.
Reply:Because people want to impress other people. If everyone was like you, the world would be a lot calmer and nicer. People would be way happier and have better jobs. I really like your attitude about it. But I hope you aren't NOT working out, people need exercise for their health. NOT always for their looks. I am just pointing that out, I don't really know if you don't work out or if you do work out you just mentioned it.
Reply:It's because of the media and magizines. Plus the fashion industry is a multi million dollar industry and somehow makes its way into every corner of everything. People are easily brain washed so when they see a million ads and commercials for these sorts of things it sticks. Plus celebrities have started anorexia trends which is making being super skinny a new trend.

Reply:Wow, that's a loaded question. It's been beaten into our brains. It's human nature. Our looks are what attracts us to someone. Personally, if I think I look good, I don't care what anyone else thinks.
Reply:because when you open up a magazine or watch tv all you see are these size 2 models and you begin to think thats what your suppose to look like but what people dont understand is that everybodys bodies arent made to look like that. Also because of the peps we like to call the mean girls or plastics every one once to be them because there so popular and pretty and they frown upon the people that are not as skinny or as pretty as them. Thats society now.
Reply:definitely has to do with the media. There is an image set subconsciously in everyones mind on what is perceived as looking good or hot or whatever, so people strive for that. The media is messing up peoples heads...especially younger generation following the media right now, into the music and the fashion, little girls are wearing skirts and tights before I even knew what those were....make up too. People are obsessed with attracting others because of what they will see on the outside....personally though, I don't care how hot you are, if you can't have a normal conversation with someone it doesn't really matter what you look like. But anyways, I would definitely say people are so addicted with their looks because of the media.

Reply:I agree. I just don't like how people are treated differently just because they either look ugly or hot. But, sadly that's how people kind of do a quick judgment of you to figure out what kind of person you are.
Reply:i agree with you to a certain degree. However looks is the first thing you see when approaching a person. its not there personality or there insides . that comes with time of getting to know someone.





So looks is always the first thing you see.
