I have fair skin.
It's difficult to tan.
I want a natural, deep tan!
How long should I expose myself to the tanning bed?
With fair skin, I want to use the tanning bed to get a good tan. How long should I tan for each visit?
I am fair skinned also. It really depends on the type of bed. If it is a standard bed I would say start at 10 minutes maybe even 8 and work your way up. If you feel your skin burning at all get out. Doing it gradually will help you to get a deep tan. You should also ask someone who works at the tanning salon. They will help you to decide. If this doesn't work go for one of the spray on tans!
Reply:for fair skin I would not use the tanning bed, use fake tan from a bottle if you have to.
Reply:were pleny of sun block spf 30 10 min start for about 3 sesions then increase to 15 for about3 after that ask the host for recomendation,
Reply:first of all do you burn or tan?? it you burn i would go in like a bronze bed for about 5-8 minutes, and if you tan easly i would either take a hot bed or bronze for about 15-20 minutes. Do you tanning lotion? tanning lotion is very helpful i think fo rhard areas like your arm or especially the legs i use sweedish beauty pink diamond for my legs and arm and i have a natural and deep tan try that out good luck hope you get a nice tan :)
Reply:Oh no!
Do not go to the tanning beds! It's even worse than natural sun exposure as far as UVA and UVB rays go... you can get skin cancer and die from it, no joke...
There are alternatives, such as self tanners, and they even make ones that give you a non fake gradual tan.
Trust me, your life is more important than being tan.
Reply:depending on the bed,
for a lay-down:
Start at 7 min for the first week, if you see good results, and not MUCH burn, the go ahead and step up to 9 min for the next week. so on and so fourth. I just wouldn't go past 15 min for fair skin.
FOr a stand-up bed:
Start at 3-4 min, it takes half the time a laydown bed does. and contiuously go up, liek the lay down. but since a lay down you can go in for up to 20 min and a stand up is only 10, i would NOT go past 7 min in a stand up.
hope this helps!
Reply:I'm very fair and all I do is burn, it peels, then I'm back to glow in the dark white again.
I've grown to love being an albino.
Reply:If you are not used to tanning on a bed and you have not had much sun you should start out slow no more than five minutes on your first visit or else you will burn and as you start to tan up you can slowly start increasing the tan time
Reply:Unfortunately, any use of a tanning bed is going to be dangerous since a tan is a reaction to dangerous ultra-violet rays -- the same ones that cause cancer. I recommend some of the body sprays they have now which dye your body instead of inflicting damage.
If you want to be tan for just an event, I recommend Jan Tanna or Pro Tan. These will probably stain your clothes, but they look quite natural.

Reply:This is a question for the person who works at a tanning salon. I don't suggest going (at least the first few times, until you get a base tan) for more than 5 minutes. Tanning bed vary. The hot bulbs vary. This is why you should ask the person sitting behind the counter. I know in my local tanning salon, everyone who works there tan and they give a lot of great advise to first timers.
Also remember, tanning bed lotions (you CAN NOT use a lotion made for outdoors) can help the tan develop too. Ask them what one they recommend, most of the time they have samples to try.
You can get a lot of great advice from here, but it all boils down to what your salon is like. None of these people go to the one you are going to.
Reply:Please, Please, Please don't use a tanning bed if you are fair skinned!!! Not even for a minute!!
I am fair skinned, my daughter is fair skinned. Fair skinned people are at a much higher risk of skin cancer than those who are not fair skinned. If you use a tamming bed you are risking skin cancer.
Sure, tans look great. But is tanned skin really worth all the harmfull things which will occurr from damaged skin?
Cancer is just the worst as it will kill you at a young age. Well, if you die at a young age, and you don't mind dying young, then these other side effects won't worry you.
The other side effects are: Pre-mature aging of the skin. Wrinkles, deep wrinkles of the face and neck area. Especially arount the eyes and mouth. Ugly brown patches on your face, neck, arms, hands, and all over the rest of your body. Only special laser treatments will get rid of them and they are very expensive!! You also lose the collegen in your skin sooner, all the things that people lose gradually as they age occurr much quicker in those with fair skin who damage their skin through sun.
Did you know that a tan is actually a scar from the sun? Most people don't know that. Any type or degree of tanning is a scar on you skin. Look it up for goodness sakes!
If you don't want to look sixty when you are fourty, use sunblock of at least 30 every single day of the year, even in winter when the sun is behind the clouds. The sun may be behind the clouds but the uv and ub rays are still beaming through to your skin. That is why you can and do get sunburned on a cloudy overcast day.
Well, enough of my lecture, you are going to do what you want. I just felt a need to throw some words of caution in. I don't know you but I really care if you hurt yourself.
Good luck, I wish you all the happiness life as to offer.
