I just got fake [acyrllic] nails, is it normal that my skin is cracked and sore?

I just got fake nails for the first time, and i wouldn't normally do it but i had a voucher as a b'day gift.

I think they look nice but i am worried that i am going to get an infection because the technician has done some damage to the skin around some of my nails! On my thumbs i have rather deep cracks, from [i suspect] her polishing it too roughly. It did hurt, but I assumed it was normal. Are these deep cracks/rips normal and will they heel quickly and without troubles?

Thanks.

I won't be getting this done again !!!!!

Don't panic and take your nails off like someone suggested. I'm a nail tech. Yep, it's from incorrect application. Sounds like she was really rough. Prior to someone applying artificial nails they need to buff off the natural oils. Other than that, there should be no rough filing. With an electric file, it's hard to tell how far down in the nailbed one goes. So never let anyone use an electric file on you. Also, getting artificial nails is not the same as getting a manicure. Them chemicals and filing process can dry your nails out and the skin around it. I'm sure it's done intentionally because if there were oils there the nail wouldn't hold.

To get the natural look on you, you have to get it as close to the cuticles as possible. Sometimes the cuticles can grow onto the nail bed in very light layers which can be hard to see. If you place the acrylic or gel on top of it, it will come off within a couple of days, usually. So sometimes some light filing needs to be done near the cuticle. Because the boards are straight, it's hard to clean up the area without filing some of the skin, which can irritate it and sometimes cause it to crack and bleed.

Just take a deep breath and relax. Get some neosporin and put it around the cuticle area. Do this every three or four hours while your awake and then right before you go to bed. They will be tender for a couple of days and will then be fine. Another thing you can do is get a parafin dip. They are relatively inexpensive and adds back some wonderful oils and moisture to your skin.

Just don't let someone drill the nailbeds again.

Besides, if you take your artificail nails off now, it will be so thin that you won't have much protection.

If it makes you feel better, you could get it checked out.
Reply:For great nails you could get a silk wrap or even nail strengthner such as Revivanail. Avon has a great nail strengthner that I highly recommend. Don't worry. It will start to feel better after a couple of days. Report It

Reply:No, it is not normal for your skin to be dry, cracked, and sore. Remove the fake nails IMMEDIATELY.
Reply:It is not normal. You should have it checked out by the dermatologist. If you want your skin to be smooth again, then just put some Aveeno lotion or the ointment that your dermatologist will give you.
Reply:I'm not so sure they are normal!! Where did you go to get it done?? You might want to find some info on that place when i got my nails done i had dry skin and as a result some hangnails and some cracks but no really deep ones!! HOPE this helps!! GL
Reply:Nope, your skin shouldn't be cracked. You may have had a bad reaction to the chemicals. I would report it to the salon, and get the money back. Also, remove the nails.
Reply:no this is not good sounds like she might have got the product to close to your cuticle or on them this will become sore if she did. dont go back to that place.
