Can anyone help me try to identify a skin complaint my daughter has whereby she wakes up with large blisters?

Hi, my daughter is 17 years old and has woken up with huge blisters 5 times now. The first when she was about 5yrs old and the rest over the last 2-3yrs. They have occurred on her upper arm, both knees, top of thigh and finger. There is redness round the blister and the liquid in it is clear. It looks like a burn. When it pops, it scabs over, takes weeks to heal and scars as it seems to consist of many layers of skin. The wound is quite deep so takes a lot of healing. Nobody seems to know what it is, not the GP nor Consultant Dermatologist and we are very worried in case she wakes up with it on her face as the scarring's pretty bad. I have photographs if anyone has any ideas or would like to see them. There is no pattern to the blisters as to when they come and the Consultant does not think it's allergy or eczema related and not typical of any other condition he's aware of and just said whatever it is, it's rare. We live in Northern England. Thanks in advance for your help! :)

It sounds kinda like boils.....hmmm.....let me look into this more, as I have never heard of someone getting these blisters. Give me a couple days research and email me at givengrace86@yahoo.com I'll see what I can find for you.
Reply:It could be a shingles type thing or bullious pemphigoid. I think the doc needs to consider doing cultures to find out what is going on.
Reply:i really don't know. i thought it sounded like impentigo but you say she's been to the doctor already. i think maybe a trip to a specialist is in order.
Reply:I think you should take her to see a dermatologist but I suspect she may be either burning herself or someone is abusing her. from the places you mentioned it sounds like she is doing it because these are typical places in her sight. teens sometimes do this under stress and it is a form of self mutilation from inner anger turned toward themselves. sometimes when parents divorce the kids feel responsible or when a parent leaves and they feel abandoned. Kids tend to blame themselves like they think they are not worthy of love like others. I am sorry if this is shocking but there are many kids who cut themselves and burn and even use pins to cause pain to themselves. Angolina Jolie who married Brad Pitt admitted she used to cut herself.
Reply:When I was in hospital I got MRSA and the symptom for me was large blisters like these. I got them on my legs below the knee and feet. It was cured with antibiotics and the scars faded away over time. I hope this helps.
Reply:Vist the skin rash rash page at the source below. It may help you diagnose the skin problem.
