go to home depot and ask for a thick, hard shell finish for wood. then just apply it on the hole until it is level with the rest of the table, if you get too much let it DRY and then sand it down. if it dries and is still too shallow, simply add more, make sure there are NO bubbles!

good question, hope this helped!
Reply:you are going to have top refinish the whole thing. sand it , stain it, and then refinish it. perhaps you would want to take it to a cabinet make or a woodworker
Reply:Now's your chance to make it a work of art! Get some fabric you like alot or maybe some walpaper that's not too crazy and cover the whole thing with it. You can add color to it. or you could just sad it and refinish it.
Reply:It depends a lot on what the table top was finished with . A shellac finish (french polish) can be repaired by using a solvent and a rubbing pad .

If it was polyurethane you might need to strip the top and refinish the whole thing if you want it perfect, or you can let the top dry completely, and feather the area with sandpaper , then apply a coat or two of polyurethane to the damaged area .
Reply:It sounds to me like the finish might have been lacquer and not varnish. About all you can do is refinish the top, and if you want the best results, that means the whole top. Don't just try to do the spot you ruined. Get some fine sandpaper, (220 grit or less) and sand the top until the finish is gone. Try not to get the stain. If you do you'll have to restain the whole thing too.

Once you have the old finish off, you need to find a high quality finish. Make sure it has the same sheen as the rest of the table. Put on a VERY LIGHT first coat and let it dry. When dry, lightly sand the top until smooth. Repeat this process for about 5 or 6 coats. If you can get a hold of an HVLP sprayer, that will put the best finish on for you, but they are expensive to buy. I suggest going to your local home improvement store and buying a package of 0000 steel wool for the sanding between coats. It is a very, very fine steel wool and produces a beautiful finish. Do not use a water based finish.

Good Luck, and keep the nail polish remover in the bathroom from now on.
Reply:Other than re-finishing it, you could try tiling it. Research tabletop tiling.
