just into the dermis. the skin isn't really that deep to begin with.

Exactly how deep does the tattoo needle go into your skin?
It's about 1mm, going past the epidermis into the dermis. If any less than a millimeter, it might leave scratches and wear off, if any deeper it would be extremely painful, and there would be a lot of bleeding.
Reply:I was just having this conversation with someone who knows a tattoo artist. The needle goes into 4 of the 7 layers of skin. Shocking, isn't it?
Reply:just through the skin surface and the needle is so fast you dont feel every single stab of it more like a total discomfert for a bit in the whole area.

Reply:The needle goes into 1/64 to 1/16th of an inch. It goes through the first layers of skin so it will last. If it went further you can risk ink poisoning, and if it didn't go in enough your tattoo will fade away.

Reply:It feel as if the artist is etching into your bones. The needles goes in about 1/8" if that much. It is deep though, has to be or it won't last.
